Programme and training

invest in play® (iiP) is committed to creating research-based programmes that are culturally relevant, scalable and up-to-date. Our team works in collaboration with local communities and organisations in various countries to co-create country-specific versions of the iiP Core Parent Programme.

The iiP Core Parent Programme Six Bricks for Kids model outlines research-based strategies that help caregivers build a strong foundation for their child’s life. These include:

  • Play and positive attention to create solid parent-child relationships and trust.
  • Support for children’s learning, emotional and social skills.
  • Caring boundaries that create a predictable and safe framework for children to thrive.
  • Self-regulation strategies for caregivers and children

The 12-session programme can be delivered in groups or with individual families in prevention or treatment contexts for parents of children aged 2-12 years. The strategies in this core model build on 50 years of research on what works to support all children, including those with challenging behaviours, social difficulties, anxiety, ADHD and autism.

Training and Implementation

We offer high quality 3-day trainings that prepare facilitators to deliver the program with parents. The training is appropriate for anyone working in mental health, social services, education, family support, and other caring professions.

The training includes a license which gives access to all of the online materials needed to deliver the Core Parent Programme (Level 2). After the initial training, facilitators are ready to begin delivering the programme to parents. We then offer a 2-level accreditation process to enhance facilitator’s skills. Facilitators who participate in 2 skills-based master classes can become Accredited Facilitators (Level 3).

Implementation research shows that to maintain positive outcomes for families, facilitators should receive on-going supervision. This is recommended for sustainable implementation.  iiP offers a package of 3 video-based supervision sessions (Level 4 is our recommended package).

Once accredited as Fidelity Facilitators there are pathways to develop local iiP Supervisors (Level 5) and Trainers (Level 6) to build sustainability and enhance cost-effectiveness.

To build a sustainable implementation we recommend that organisations:

  • Train at least 3 iiP facilitators to ensure robustness and continuity in programme delivery.
  • Provide 7-8 hours a week for 12 weeks for each facilitator to deliver a iiP parent group. This includes preparation for the group, setting up the room, delivering the sessions with parents and weekly phone calls with parents. Time to conduct enrolment interviews and organize child care is additional.
  • Train facilitators to level four (Fidelity facilitators) which includes 2 masterclasses and 3 themed supervisions to ensure high quality programme delivery and thereby the best possible effect for children and families.
